Form utility

Form utility

Q] Define and explain form utility.

Form utility is the want satisfying capacity and therefore the value given to a product due to a change in its form.

Form utility is the most obvious utility added in the process of production. Form utility involves the idea that the product is made available to the consumer in some form that is more useful than any commodities that are used to create it. It refers to a change of matter or substance to a more serviceable or useful shape or form. Hence it is known as form utility. Eg utility of wood and other material used with it, when transformed into furniture increases, similarly steel to utensils or cabinets, clay to pots etc. This is conversion or assembling of raw materials into usable goods or services. Any change in shape adds utility. This is done through manufacturing activity.
