The central bank also collects and publishes statistical data and economic information through its research department. It compiles data on the working of the commercial and cooperative banks, on balance of payments, Government finances, security markets, price trends and credit measures, data regarding agricultural, industrial and financial sectors, exports and imports, money and capital markets etc.
It publishes a monthly bulletin with weekly statistical supplements including the banks ‘monetary policy and measures adopted.
Its main publications include Report on Currency and Finance, RBI Bulletin, RBI Journal, and various research papers.
It also publishes data and information regarding various macro economic variables.
On the basis of this information, the Government can formulate and implement its economic and monetary policies.
The central bank assists the Government in Economic Planning.
It appoints various expert committees to study the various economic problems and measures to solve them.
